Why not Wynwood?

I've spent my holidays in Florida.
Miami is not anymore the "hang out at the mall" lifestyle I used to experience 10 years ago. An emerging Design District, Art Basel, galleries next to cloth stores in Lincoln Road, and a cool crowd in bars like Bardot.
One of the walks I liked the most was the one around Wynwood Walls, where they are constantly changing the paintings.

Watch the walk!

Message for new year

Should we look forward to next year?
It's just how we measure timing, we need to control it and tag it in hours and days and months and years. But in the end we all have our own timing for everything. We control it, not the calendar. Some of us can do it faster, some take it slower. We do it when we feel it, no need to rush. I still have lots of things I would have liked to do in 2010, but I believe there's no end of the year; I end my own cycles when I feel I have completed the task.
New York may go quick, but we are not obliged to follow it. We are our own person and our own mentor.
I leave you with some self-portraits (its not that i like me, but recently its been a good task to discover myself by letting me sketch my own perception).

Happy new year!!
(It's always new year, don't tag it)

Into the rawnest thoughts

Part of an upcoming editorial

I specially like this shots where i was caught spontaneously while being styled in 20s and listening to Wagner.

Ink is the perfect tool for expressing the moment, cause it can't be corrected after. As i said before for me a drawing can only become concrete as a thought after it's been done.
Ink let us be ourselves without inhibitions, let us show the world how we think and feel. We don't want to be corrected by the limits and rules (of in this case anatomy). Be aware of pursuing perfectionism...
The most difficult challenge for an artist, I believe, is loosing yourself and going back to childhood; back to the infant we once were. Children, like primitive artists, had an inborn feel for form which according to Marcus Rothkovich or Rothko should be encouraged to develop freely and without interference from the intellect.

My paintings are born not made

What's your statement? What's your objective? What do you have to say?

The people I paint don’t exist. The only thing that is real is the painting. It’s not like a photograph where there’s another reality that existed at a certain moment in time in the past. The image is only happening right now and this is the only version of it. To me, that’s fascinating. It’s an eternal moment.
--John Currin

Do i have a speech behind my paints? No. I don't want to change the world or people's perception about it. I paint because i enjoy doing it, i let my hand freely slide through the canvas dirty with watercolor and charcoal and for me that is when i reach my extasis; when the figure is being modeled. From my theatre classes to my real performance in life i've always enjoyed the improvisation most of all. So no, i don't have anything to say before my figure's existence; my unconscious is the one willing to express itself using my hand as the physical extension and letting me know after what i've just created on the media.
-- Naomi Preizler

Art is not pleasure, a solace, or an amusement; art is a great matter. Art is an organ of human life, transmitting man's reasonable perception into felling.
--Tolstoi

The important thing about doing my art is that I also live...and the more I bring into myself the more I have a desire and need to translate it into something.
-- Raymond Saunders

The human figure is rhythm come to life, capturing that rhythm is one of life's great joys.
